چکیده

Here, we present the results of an online international survey concerning adoption good beekeeping practices and proper biosecurity measures for management varroosis in Apis mellifera. The was designed as a risk assessment tool by Food Agriculture Organization United Nations (FAO), International Federation Beekeepers’ Association (Apimondia), Center Analytics Research & Education (CARE) at Appalachian State University, Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale Lazio e Toscana (IZSLT). data collected investigated techniques, treatments, training beekeepers adopt varroa mite. idea to validate able collect compare, different areas world, adopted face this major parasitic disease honey bees. disseminated period 14 months (January 2019–March 2020) through FAO website. A total 861 responses were received, most them from Americas (20.9%) Europe (74.7%). Concerning control useful combating varroa, showed overall awareness usefulness (BMBs), which compare across regions. majority (89.9% 82.8% Europe) interested additional bee health and, same time, willing connect themselves with veterinary experts specialized This is indication that recognize importance experts’ advice. study revealed efficacy will be further disseminated, even geographic regions heretofore not investigated, provide information on status sector.

Bidirectional Transfer of RNAi between Honey Bee and Varroa destructor: Varroa Gene Silencing Reduces Varroa Population

The mite Varroa destructor is an obligatory ectoparasite of the honey bee (Apis mellifera) and is one of the major threats to apiculture worldwide. We previously reported that honey bees fed on double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) with a sequence homologous to that of the Israeli acute paralysis virus are protected from the viral disease. Here we show that dsRNA ingested by bees is transferred to the Va...

Influence of Varroa Mite (Varroa destructor) Management Practices on Insecticide Sensitivity in the Honey Bee (Apis mellifera)

Since Varroa mites may cause devastating losses of honey bees through direct feeding, transmitting diseases, and increasing pathogen susceptibility, chemical and mechanical practices commonly are used to reduce mite infestation. While miticide applications are typically the most consistent and efficacious Varroa mite management method, miticide-induced insecticide synergism in honey bees, and t...

to test whether they would remove experimentally infested pupae following methods of Boecking and Drescher (1992). In 1994, the hygienic colonies removed significantly more pupae infested with one mite per cell than the non-hygienic colonies. In 1995, there was no significant difference between the hygienic and non-hygienic colonies when one or two mites were introduced per pupa due to variatio...

Continuous Management of Varroa Mite in Honey Bee, Apis Mellifera, Colonies

The Varroa mite has many deleterious impacts on honey bee colonies. These impacts are well known and include, for example, the weakness of honey bees by feeding on the haemolymph (Rosenkranz et al. 2010), transportation of viruses to host bees including Kashmir bee virus (Chen et al. 2004), suppresses the immunity of honey bees (Shen et al. 2005), impact bee wing Shape (Cakmak et al. 2011) and ...
